What is C2C?

Corner-to corner crochet is a technique where instead of working back and forth in rows, you crochet diagonally from one corner of a square to the opposite corner and back again. You will always be either increasing or decreasing in each row – for this particular pattern the first half is all increasing tiles and the second half is all decreasing tiles.

A downloadable version of this pattern can be found here.

A great introduction to C2C crocheting can be found on the Make & Do Crew website! This is where I first learned as well. It goes over the basics in depth and in an easy to understand way. There are also a variety of patterns that you can browse and choose to make!

Supplies

  • Crochet Hook (Size H)
  • Bernat Velvet Yarn (3 Skeins Indigo & 3 Skeins White)
  • Scissors
  • Ruler (this is a great way to keep track of where you are on the graph by drawing a line through each row as you go – optional)
  • Tapestry Needle (optional)

Abbreviations

Ch: Chain

Dc: Double Crochet

Sl st: Slip Stitch

Sp: Space

B: Blue Tile

W: White Tile

RS: “Right” side of the project. All odd-numbered rows are right side rows.

WS: “Wrong” side or back of the project (backside). All even-numbered rows are wrong side rows.

First Step

Split yarn skeins into 8 balls of yarn each so you have 16 in total (8 white & 8 Indigo). Put each into a plastic baggie. This will allow you to more easily untangle the yarn as you move forward in the project – especially when you have multiple threads on at once!

Beginning!

This project starts at the bottom right hand corner of the chart (see below).

Right Side & Top of Chart is Odd Rows

Bottom & Left side of Chart is Even Rows

Starting and Increasing Tiles*

1. Ch 4

2. Dc into 3rd ch from hook

3. Dc into next ch (1st tile made)

4. Ch 4

5. Dc into 3rd ch from hook and next st

6. Skip next 2 dc, then sl st into the space created by ch-2 at end of tile (1st tile of row made)

7. Ch 2

8. Dc twice in same space. Turn. (2nd tile made, row now has 2 tiles)

9. Repeat steps 4-8 to begin each row through and including Row 48. As rows increase in number of tiles, repeat steps 6-8 in each remaining tile of row.

Decreasing Tiles

When you reach the decreasing half of this blanket at Row 49 you will:

1. Ch 1

2. Sl st in next 2 dc

3. Sl st into ch-2 (turning ch sp)(1 tile gone)

4. Ch 2

5. Dc 2 in ch-2 sp (1st tile of row made)

6. Repeat steps 6-8 of “Starting and Increasing Tiles” until end of row.

7. Repeat steps 1-4 of “Decreasing Tiles” at the end of each row until you reach the end of the graph!

*(I did not use the standard set of stitches for a tile for this blanket.)
